Summary
Despite the cancellation of the annual Polar Bear Plunge due to the pandemic, around 200 people of all ages, some partially clothed and others naked, gathered at Ocean Beach in San Francisco to take the plunge into the 52-degree water, symbolically washing away the difficulties of 2020. The event was relatively subdued this year, with most participants wearing masks and practicing social distancing, but for many, the experience felt cathartic and a hopeful start to the new year.
