Summary
Edgar Degas was known for his extensive collection of nude artworks, particularly of women in various states. However, while Degas despised women, he always preferred to use them as subjects. Degas' 1880 Impressionist show entry, Young Spartans Exercising, depicted nude adolescent boys and girls in ancient Greek setting, a subject that was highly unusual for its time and place.
