Summary
George Mallory met Ruth Turner at a dinner party held by Arthur Clutton-Brock. They fell in love and later got married despite Ruth's health complications. They had a daughter, Frances Clare, and employed a nursemaid to help with childcare. Ruth felt torn when leaving the children with the nursemaid. George accepts his brother-in-law's offer to help him join the Royal Artillery. He and Ruth decide to let their home while he is away, and eventually, Ruth, Clare, and Vi move to Abbotsbury while George trains in Weymouth. Despite the physical and emotional distance, Ruth expresses her love and support for George as he prepares to leave for France.
