Summary
After returning to the Holt, George and Ruth worked to regain ownership of their home. They faced challenges such as managing their household amidst war effects, including the scarcity of resources, and finding and compensating servants. Ruth took the lead in raising the children and educating them, especially Clare, and tried to encourage a friendly relationship between the children and their parents. George returned to his job at Charterhouse, but faced frustrations, leading him to explore the idea of starting a new school with his friends. Additionally, George engaged in mountaineering adventures, including a trip to the Alps, where he displayed perseverance and maturity in his climbing efforts. Finally, George went to Ireland to report on the conflict between the Irish republicanism and the British government, demonstrating his interest in political affairs.
